Amore’ Couple Sessions

We found a way to take our couple sessions to the next level.  🙂

The verbiage below and concept for these sessions are directly from a fellow photographer named Jesh De Rox http://www.jeshderox.com/  Thank you so much for the inspiration Jesh!  🙂

The photography is mine!  🙂

While the beginning of a journey together certainly deserves celebration, as your journey with each other continues, each additional step is an achievement worth celebrating just as much, if not more.

Because of the way our minds work, the clarity we have about the importance of the ones we love can become muddy over time.  Though always within our reach, responsibilities, and misunderstandings can stack up between us.  Our ability to recognize what is precious is often set aside.

If a social ritual could be established in which couples are regularly invited to experience what is most precious in each other, the ripple effect of that clarity could shift the world.  This is the dream of Amore’ Couple Sessions.

Amore’ is not just a photo session, it’s a celebration of the love between you!  It’s designed with fun little exercises.  These exercises are designed to bring the two of you closer and rekindle that fire you shared when you first started dating.  This will in turn create some awesome moments to capture.

As Always have a great day and Stay Positive!

Johnson County Relay for Life – June 24, 2011

What a beautiful night for Relay it was!

If it involves fighting cancer you can bet I will be there!  Cancer has taken my father, two great friends, and two furry family members from me.

I hope you enjoy the slide show and that it makes you want to help with the battle against cancer!   Please give what you can!

After the slide show scroll down and see some of my favorite images from the walk and as always let me know what you think.

A special thanks to Stubby Webb for all her help on this one!  🙂

The Great “Bald” Cardinal

I was sitting out in the backyard doing paperwork, ok laptop work, 🙂 and this guy landed at the feeder.  I was like, looks like a Cardinal but that isn’t a Cardinal head!?!?!?   Ok I got to get a picture, went to get my camera and of course he was gone.

So over the next few days every time I went out in the backyard I brought my camera with me and finally got this shot of him.  Now if you can imagine this, I’m sitting out at the patio table with the umbrella up, it’s raining out, talking on the cell phone to a friend and there he is!  So balancing the cell phone in my ear, with the camera up to my eye, snap, got him!  LoL

After doing a little google research, I found it’s the bald cardinal sometimes called “pinhead” or “mini red vulture”.   LoL….Gotta love Google!

Cardinals can go bald for a couple of reasons. This time of year the birds are molting so before the new feathers grow in the old feathers fall out and for some reason cardinals will sometimes lose all the feathers on their head. The skin is black and without the fluffy feathers, their head looks teeny tiny especially with the massive bill.

Sometimes birds will get feather mites and all their feathers will get eaten away by the mites and the birds are bald until they grow in new ones. However, if you are seeing bald cardinals this time of year, it’s a safe bet that they are molting.

Since “Dude”, (yea I named him, LoL) has started visiting my backyard, he has given me inspiration.  I’ve noticed  he and his “better half” have a nest in the yard.  After realizing this another thought hit me.   If  “Dude” was human, probably no one would date him because he is different.  If “Dude” was human and in high school, he would be picked on and bullied for being “different.”   If “Dude” was human and walking down the street people would stop and stare because he is “different.”

What does that say to us about the way humans act sometimes?  Nature doesn’t care if one of her creations is a little different, why does it bother some of us humans?

I say embrace those differences, make those differences your strengths!  “Dude” does and through it he gave a little inspiration to this human!  🙂

Autism Walk 2011

On Saturday, April 30, 2011 I photographed the Autism Walk at Westdale Mall for the 4th year now.  I love working with these kids and their families!

Autism is on the rise in this country, there is a reason for this and we need to find what is causing this rise.  If you can, please make a donation here.   http://www.eciautismsociety.org/

While I was taking care of photographing the different teams, Stubby Webb was busy taking candids of the walk itself and the kids being themselves just having fun.   All the candid shots in the slide show and below were photographed by Stubby.

If you would like to purchase one of these or other candid images from this event you can do so by going HERE.    All profits from any sales will go right back to the East Central Iowa Autism Society.

Ok, now for the pictures….I’m trying something a little different on this post.

All of the images I included in this post could be considered “snapshots” and they are definitely “candid images”, but in my opinion they go beyond just ordinary snapshots and candids.   I believe that a photograph is much more than a snapshot, or at least it should be, if it is to have any meaning to it.   I believe photographs should have meaning, they should tell a story, pose a question, they should make you FEEL!  All of these “ingrediants” are recognized and captured by a photographer in a split second.  These ingrediants, the FEELINGS, the memories of times past, are what truly adds “VALUE” to a photograph!  The emotions, the feelings, and the memories!  🙂

Below some of the images, I wrote a description of the image, my interpretation if you will of what I personally “feel” when viewing them.

Please let me know what you think of the descriptions by leaving a comment or subscribing to my blog.   If you like, I may just be persuaded to include it in future posts.   🙂

There is also a short slide show at the bottom of this post, take a few minutes to check it out also!

One last thing, a special thanks to Stubby Webb for helping me out with this event!

I love the mood in this image of this little girl!  This image leaves me wondering a bit, what is she concentrating on?  If you dig deeper into the image you can see some symbolism in it also.  There is light behind her, soft and cuddly and warm in the middle and very sweet, all which are part of  her personality, but there is a dark wall in front of her also.  Ahhhh the POWER of photography!  🙂

This little guy just came right up to me while I was doing team pictures.  Fun little guy full of personality!  🙂  I love the look on his face!

Yes in a crowd, but feeling a bit alone or isolated?

What child can resist these things!

Love the look on this little guys face, but beyond that I like the three hands merging together in the bottom right corner.

I really love the interaction in this image, you can tell there is fun as well as love between these two.  Love the girls little hands holding on to the wrist at the bottom.   It’s just one of those images where you can “feel the love”.

Doing what a toddler does best, give me, I want!!!!!  LoL

Fun image, love the contrast in expressions between the little girl and the Kernals mascot.

Yes this image may be a little “busy”, lots of people in it, but the way it was shot the viewers eye goes straight to the little boy with the balloon and that devilish look of his!  Then your eye starts to wonder a little bit, you see the faces of the different people and you start to wonder what is on each persons mind.

How more symbolic can you get?  Reaching toward the light!  or maybe a cure?

Nothing like a little “attitude”, this one just makes me smile!  🙂

There just is no substiute for the look of “wonderment” on a childs face!  Taking it all in, learning so much while doing so!

Love that BIG smile on his face, but I also love that “secure” feeling of him holding the adults hand!

Just one of those “awww” moments!  🙂  Both the image above and the one below.

Just plain old cute!   What a great natural smile!   And what kid doesn’t have something on their shirt!  🙂 LoL

So, that’s it!  Like I say let me know what you think of the descriptions, and while you are here, take a few more minutes and enjoy the slideshow also!

As Always have a great day and Stay Positive!

Recent Randomness

In addition to working with clients and producing images that go beyond ordinary images for them, I really enjoy getting out and doing personal work.  I find it is great practice for improving how I “see” things and it really helps me to constantly improve my photography skills!  LoL in other words I have my camera with me just about anywhere I go!  🙂

These first two images are from the big snowstorm we had the first of Feb, just two months ago.  I’m sooo happy the “white stuff” is gone for a while!  🙂  I like these two images because they also show my mural that Stubby Webb did for me last November.  🙂  Thank you Miss Stubby!

I love the challenge of Street Shooting also.  A couple of weeks ago Claire McGranahan, Greg Frieden, and myself went exploring in downtown Cedar Rapids.   The thing I like about street shooting is there is always a picture waiting around just about any corner, a blank canvas so to speak!  It’s great practice on the art of “seeing”   These next 4 are just some playing around with window reflections.

The image below is a shot of Claire shooting straight up the building.  🙂  Sorry Claire, I couldn’t resist!  🙂

I loved this wall!  A couple of stencils of a flag and Statue of Liberty.

A random boot left in a parking lot, you just know there is a story behind this, but not sure I want to know what it really is!  LoL  🙂

This was taken inside a parking garage, I liked the way the sunshine was pouring in.
