A Tribute to 2 Furry Family Members – Smokey and Chief

It was a tough 90 days for me and started on the December 19, 2009 the day I lost Smokey after 13 great years together!  Then on March 25, 2010 I lost Chief!  Both to cancer, but different types of cancer.  I miss you guys but I know you are still with me in my heart and soul! 🙂  See ya both again someday at the “Bridge!”  In the meantime, have fun playing together!  🙂

Smokey my fuzzy, sometimes goofy bestest friend ever, will always be with me and he has truly touched my life in a very very special way!  From the first time he looked up at me he instantly won me over with those wonderful eyes of his and that special loving look of his! :)  If you care to read more about Smokey, you can do so here:  http://wp.me/Pr4IS-bl

Smokey

This is one of my favorite pics of Smokey!  🙂

Chief was a very special dog, companion, friend, teacher, mentor, family member, who I shared a very special bond with! He lived a great life for 11 1/2 years, he touched a lot of lives, and was loved by all that met him! Both my son and myself fell in love with him the first time we met him. This was so common, he was just one of those dogs that you instantly fall in love with, not because of the beauty he was graced with, and he was beautiful, but for that wonderful energy he had about him!

Chief in his lifetime got to do and see so much, more than lots of dogs and even more than some people get to experience. He was a Therapy Dog who helped a lot and I mean a LOT of people.

Chief had such a wonderful calming and healing energy to him! He got to work with cancer patients, elderly in nursing homes, adults and children alike! He helped many to retrieve their lives by giving them hope and love! He was just that way! Always giving what he could give!

4th of July Fireworks at Ellis Park in Cedar Rapids.

Calling this one………. “And Then There was One”  😉

Just messing around on this one.  Taken while waiting for the “show” to begin.  Zoomed the lens on a bulb exposure and just happened to catch Stubby in the bottom  right.  Would love your thoughts on this one, good or bad!  🙂

The Phoenix Rising?  😉

Notice the “face” in the bottom part of this one?  😉

Granddaughters

My beautiful granddaughters from the 4th of July weekend!  🙂    These are all just candid shots of them, no posing just them being them!  Oh and the blue eyes are totally them, no postwork magic was done on them.

All were shot 100% in natural light.   🙂

Johnson County Relay for Life – June 24, 2011

What a beautiful night for Relay it was!

If it involves fighting cancer you can bet I will be there!  Cancer has taken my father, two great friends, and two furry family members from me.

I hope you enjoy the slide show and that it makes you want to help with the battle against cancer!   Please give what you can!

After the slide show scroll down and see some of my favorite images from the walk and as always let me know what you think.

A special thanks to Stubby Webb for all her help on this one!  🙂

I know at first glance this is just a crowd of faces, but look deeper, study the faces!  If you do so, you can see that cancer has touched the lives of each in the crowd.

This one speaks to me also!   To view these luminaries once lit and to see the sheer number of them, it is just incredible to me how many lives have been affected by cancer.   Each one represents a victim or survivor of cancer.  Each day cancer finds more victims!

  This shirt says it all!

An evening with my Granddaughters

My granddaughters came over for a few hours the other day, I always enjoy getting to see them!   I’ve said it before, it’s just cool to watch them “explore with such open minds.”   They make you stop and think, “yup, this is what it’s all about.”  🙂

LoL, sometimes you only get ONE shot so you have to make it count!

The “one shot” was the one above, she apparently doesn’t like the camera anymore.  😮  It was “oh no, is he pointing a camera at me?”  The one below is “Yes he IS pointing a camera at me!   LoL this HAS to change!  j/k  🙂  Anyway I put the camera away and just enjoyed spending some time with them!   BTW these are her real eyes, no enhancements were made to these wonderful set of eyes she has!

On the other side my oldest granddaughter is a big time camera ham and always has been!  LoL Go figure!  🙂

As Always have a great day and Stay Positive!

This is just too cool!  I had to share!  🙂  Back to back shows!  “Doing a Happy Dance”  LoL

You can see all of the accepted entries here:  https://asmithgallery.com/Simplicity_Accepted_Imag.php With the quality of the accepted entries, I feel truly honored to have been accepted into this show!  🙂

This is the 6th gallery show in which I’ve had fine art images accepted.

Dates for the show are February 25 to April 17, 2011, Opening Reception is February 26, 2011 4 to 7 PM at A Smith Gallery in Johnson City, Texas.

As I stated above, I’m currently  in another show at A Smith Gallery, Romance.

THE STORY BEHIND THIS IMAGE  (Every picture tells a story)

The image was taken almost exactly two months after loosing a precious furry friend by the name of Chief to cancer.  (Chief’s story)  I had been thinking about him a lot that week.  I was in my bathroom doing what people normally do in a bathroom and felt an energy change, a good energy change, full of warmth!

This white moth just came out of “nowhere” and started fluttering around my head and finally landed by the shower.  Hard to explain but it just “felt” like Chief was there with me in the form of this moth.  He landed in the perfect place as the late afternoon light was pouring into the bathroom and bouncing off the mirror to the spot in which it landed.

My camera is always just a few steps away, grabbed it from the kitchen  and took a couple of shots of this white little guy.  Yes he was still waiting for me when I got back with the camera and right lens.  🙂  Anyway very soon after taking the shots, the moth flew away into the hallway, and I never saw him again…disappearing as quickly as he had appeared.  (I included my favorite image of Chief at the end of this post.)

White Moth

I LOVE being a photographer, and LOVE being able to use my skills for both my portrait and wedding clients, and creating family heirlooms for them.  Precious memories of a lifetime!   For me there is no better feeling than to see the happy faces on my clients when they see their images for the first time.

I also LOVE doing fine art photography and participating in gallery shows.  The Fine Art work I do helps keep me inspired to keep producing quality images for my clients, but it also helps me to consistently improve my skills, my understanding of light and composition and how they work together.  Photography is truly a life long journey, you never stop learning.

Photography is my reason for being here, I truly believe it is why I was put on this earth!
